Title: PhD Student Positions in Learning for Dynamics and Control, Robotics, and AI

Summary:

The Nonlinear Systems and Control group at Aalto University focuses on combining nonlinear control theory with physics-informed machine learning. Their goal is to enhance robotic and learning-enabled systems’ performance, safety, and robustness through research. They are currently looking for two PhD students with a passion for nonlinear stability theory, modeling & identification, optimal control, certifiably safe & robust control, and learning in dynamics & control.

These students will be tasked with developing data-driven methodologies for learning control policies. This includes ensuring provable guarantees on performance and safety, like efficient computation of Lyapunov and barrier functions, and understanding reachable sets and optimal value functions. The research will build on recent advances in learning Operator Theoretic representations of dynamical systems, focusing on model interpretability, scalability, and data efficiency.
