Eligibility:

There are a number of eligibility requirements you ensure you meet prior to applying for a Higher Research Degree. These include the following.

  • Admission and scholarship application minimum requirements.
  • English requirements: All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum UNSW English Language Requirements.  
  • Source of funding: All applicants, whether domestic or international, must complete the GTE & Financial Declaration Form and, if required, submit evidence of your capacity to fund all living costs, fees and other associated costs. As an applicant to UNSW, you must demonstrate that you have the ability to financially support yourself (and any dependants) for the duration of your studies and, if an international applicant, that you are a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE). This may be through applying for a UNSW Research Scholarship, an alternative scholarship or sponsorship (provided by a source external to UNSW), or through self-funding. 
  • Supervision and resources: You must consider whether you need to contact a supervisor or undertake an EOI. Approval must be provided by a potential supervisor or School before you can apply. Further checks on appropriate supervision and resources will be completed during the assessment process, so please note that approval to apply does not guarantee an offer.

Eligibility

These scholarships are available to potential and current students who:

  • are domestic or international students; and
  • have applied for admission to a PhD or Professional Doctorate by Research program; and
  • have a Bachelor degree with first-class honours (some Colleges may consider students with upper second-class honours), or a Master degree with a research component or equivalent from a recognised university.

Summary: A number of ANU PhD Scholarships which provide a stipend are funded by Colleges. It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship can be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis.

Title: A E Ringwood Supplementary Scholarship

Summary: This scholarship is offered by the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). The A.E. Ringwood Scholarships are designed to attract students of high calibre to pursue PhD research in Earth Sciences.

Benefits

Awardees of this scholarship will have been successful in obtaining a full Tuition Fee Scholarship and an ANU (stipend) Scholarship; which include travel to Canberra; reimbursement of some removal expenses; thesis reimbursement allowance.

Title: A L Hales Honours Year Scholarship

Summary: This scholarship is offered by the Research School of Earth Sciences.

Eligibility

  • Students undertaking 4th year of Bachelor of Science Honours program;
  • interest in undertaking a research project in The Research School of Earth Sciences;
  • Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia and New Zealand cititizens;
  • students should have majored in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Earth and Marine Sciences or Materials Science.

Value: $10,000 per annum

Benefits:

An additional allowance will be paid to successful applicants who have transferred their enrolment to ANU for their Honours year and whose permanent place of residence is outside of Canberra. Title: ACTION Trust Honours Scholarship

Value: Up to $5000 per annum

Summary:

This scholarship is offered by the Fenner School of Environment and Society and the Research School of Earth Sciences.

The purpose of the scholarship is to enable young researchers and practitioners to undertake quality research in areas relating to the interests of the ACTION Trust and/or to environment and sustainability.

Study area: Honours in a Program offered by the Fenner School of Environment and Society or the Earth and Marine Science program in the Research School of Earth Sciences.

Selection Basis:

The scholarship shall be awarded principally on academic merit. The Selection Committee may also take into consideration the field of study which the candidate is developing for their thesis the availability of suitable supervision, the applicant’s previous academic record, and reports from two academic referees familiar with the applicant’s work (if required).

Eligibility

The scholarship shall be available for award each year to students who:

  • have been successful in gaining entry into the Honours year of a program of study through the Fenner School of Environment and Society or the Earth and Marine Science program in the Research School of Earth Sciences:
  • have a strong academic record;
  • are intending to undertake research in an area relating to environment and sustainability;
  • have willing and suitable supervision.

Title: Agent Based Modelling Scholarship

Field of study: Strong background in modelling and an interest in its application to archaeology and ecology.

Eligibility: Must hold a Bachelor degree with at least upper second-class honours (first-class honours is preferred) or equivalent, or a Graduate Diploma or Master degree with a significant research thesis component and/or relevant experience.

Title: Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship

Value: $6,000 per annum

Summary:

These scholarships are offered by the ANU College of Science.

The Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship is offered to one or two RSAA graduate students to travel abroad with direct relevance to their thesis work (It will not be awarded to fund an overseas observing run). The award is based on scientific merit of the program, benefit of the program to RSAA and the student, and the effective use of the funds from the scholarship.

Title: Alexander McTaggart Honours Scholarship

Summary: This scholarship is offered by the ANU College of Health and Medicine.

Field of study:

Medical Science (Honours) relating to cancer research with the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR).

Eligibility:

A fourth year (Honours) student undertaking a project related to cancer research and allied fields at the John Curtin School of Medical Research.

Value: $7,000 per annum and relocation allowance

Benefits:

In addition to the stipend, a relocation allowance of up to $4,000 is available for Alexander McTaggart Memorial Scholarship holders recruited from outside the ACT Region. The allowance will usually be paid as reimbursement of actual costs for approved travel.

Title: Angus Nicholson Honours Scholarship in Science

Summary: This scholarship is offered by the ANU College of Health and Medicine & the ANU College of Science.  The scholarship has been generously established by Mr Jon Nicholson, in memory of his late father, Dr Angus Nicholson.

The award is available each year to a current or prospective ANU student who:

Title: Anjeli Nathan Memorial Scholarship

Value: $7,000 per annum

Summary: This Scholarship is offered by the ANU College of Science and commemorates the life of Anjeli Nathan, a brilliant student who, tragically, was killed doing the field research she loved. The scholarship may be used to assist the student either to undertake the Honours Program or to gain fieldwork experience after the successful completion of the degree with Honours.

  • an outstanding applicant who has been accepted to study behavioural ecology or conservation biology for an Honours Program within The Australian National University; or

Title: ANU Achievement Scholarship

Value: $8,000 per annum

Summary: Each year the Australian National University offers an award known as the ANU Achievement Scholarship to provide access and support to students with a disability, long term medical condition or effects of abuse.

Eligibilit

The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who satisfies the following criteria:

  • is a domestic student;
  • receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree program offered by the University; and
  • whose ability to study at university will be affected, or is likely to be affected, by the long-term and ongoing effects of one of the following:
    • a severe and long-term (or a severe and recurrent) medical/psychiatric condition or illness;
    • a learning, sensory, physical, psychological or other disability/disorder;
    • trauma or abuse.

The scholarship provides a stipend of $8,000 per annum for up to 4 years.  The scholarship is paid at the beginning of each semester.

Summary: The Australian National University (the University) may offer an award known as the ANU All-rounder Scholarship with the aim of acknowledging the achievement of those applicants who were considered in the final stage of the Tuckwell Scholarship process and offering them financial support to study at ANU.

Eligibility:

The award is available to a prospective ANU student who:

  • is a domestic student;
  • is unsuccessful in the final stage of the Tuckwell Scholarship process;
  • receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate program at the University;
  • achieves a final selection rank of 90 or above; and

Summary:

The Chancellor’s International Scholarship offers an opportunity to access one of multiple scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scholarship is designed to attract a diverse range of high calibre international students to study at ANU in 2022.

Benefits:

The scholarship will award a tuition fee reduction of 25% or 50% to eligible students as outlined above.

The tuition fee reduction is applied to three years of study for undergraduate recipients and up to two years of study for postgraduate recipients.

Additionally, as a recipient of the ANU Chancellor’s International Scholarship, you are allowed to pay a reduced tuition deposit of AUD 10,000 instead of the standard deposit amount listed on your admissions offer letter.
