Lappeenranta-Lahti University (LUT University) is one of the best public research universities in Finland.  In 1969, this university was established. Lake Saimaa, the fourth largest lake in Europe, borders the university’s Lappeenranta campus. In the Finnish city of Lahti, LUT University has a second campus. Mikkeli and Kouvola are also home to research units for LUT University.

Approximately 6,331 students and 1,089 employees attend the university.  A total of 4,196 domestic applicants applied to LUT University in 2022 and 620 students were accepted. In other words, LUT University has an acceptance rate of 15% within the country, making it competitive to be accepted.

Title: Post-doctoral researcher/associate professor in economics

Location: The LUT Business School

Salary: The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The annual salary range of post-doctoral researchers is approximately 48 390–56 400 euros (plus a holiday bonus), and that of non-tenure track associate professors is approximately 56 400–65 000 euros (plus a holiday bonus), depending on qualifications and experience.

They are seeking a dynamic individual with a proactive approach to join their sustainability-focused economics research group. This role is ideal for someone interested in environmental and energy economics, and who aligns with diverse economic theories, including ecological and institutional economics. The ideal candidate should possess robust analytical capabilities and be well-versed in modern econometric methods. Key attributes include a proven track record in project management, international research collaborations, and teaching excellence. Experience in securing competitive external funding from organizations like Business Finland, the Academy of Finland, or the EU is a plus. Additionally, strong skills in research communication, dissemination, and the ability to effectively collaborate in a multidisciplinary team are essential. Fluency in Finnish for teaching undergraduate economics courses is mandatory.

Requirements

The position is open to candidates who are either a post-doctoral researcher (within eight years of earning a doctoral degree) or a non-tenure track associate professor (eight or more years post-doctoral degree). Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in economics or a related field and demonstrate the capability for independent scientific work. Preferred qualifications include a strong publication record in international academic journals and the ability to engage with various industrial and societal stakeholders.

For non-tenure track associate professor applicants, LUT University guidelines require evidence of high-level research and publications, the competence to lead a research group, and the ability to secure research funding.
