Title: Doctoral Researcher (Development of an electronic frailty index)

Location: The Faculty of Social sciences

Deadline: 31.01.2024

Position Type: The doctoral researcher position will be filled from 1.3.2024 or as mutually agreed. The position is a fixed-term period of 18 months (with a possibility of extension). A trial period applies to all our new employees.  

Salary: The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral researcher is placed on the job demands levels 2-4. A typical starting salary for a Doctoral Researcher is approximately 2600 € per month. The salary increases based on the progression of doctoral research and studies.

Summary:

The role involves developing and applying statistical modelling and artificial intelligence techniques for the identification of age-related frailty syndrome and creating an electronic frailty index model tailored to the Finnish healthcare system. Their work will focus on handling large, high-dimensional datasets with complex structures, including both structured and unstructured medical records and omics data. The position encompasses a range of research activities such as planning, data cleaning, analysis, article preparation, and dissemination. Additionally, they will be responsible for contributing to broader project research efforts and assisting in funding acquisition. The position is based at Kauppi Campus, Tampere University, with opportunities for partial remote work.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, engineering, epidemiology, or public health.
  • Proficiency in professional data analysis software (e.g., R, STATA, Python).
  • Strong methodological and theoretical skills in statistics and computing.
  • Fluent in English, with fluency in Finnish considered a significant advantage.
