Position Summary: This Industrial PhD studentship represents a collaborative effort between the University of Southampton’s Electronics and Computer Science department and Analog Devices Inc. in Limerick, Ireland. The research will be conducted within the Sustainable Electronic Technologies Group, making use of fabrication and design tools at both institutions. The focus of this project is on Radio-Frequency Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (RF-MEMS), which function differently from traditional transistors, enabling precise control over electromagnetic wave transmission. The project aims to enhance RF-MEMS performance by integrating them with a newly developed high-resistivity substrate, with the ultimate goal of powering the next generation of 6G communications and various other applications.

The next frontier in wearable assistive technology involves combining sound amplification with visual information, promising groundbreaking advancements in this field.

The integration of audio and visual information represents a rapidly evolving area with the capacity to revolutionize various applications, ranging from hearing aid design to augmented reality experiences. This project’s primary objectives include the research and development of audio-visual models that can enhance the sound enhancement capabilities of wearable devices. This involves improving the localization of sound sources and gaining a better understanding of the auditory environment by combining audio and visual input to enhance perception through multiple sensory modalities.
