Summary:
The University of Eastern Finland is offering two Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) positions in Peatland and Soil Ecology and Restoration Ecology at the Joensuu campus. These positions, part of the Peatland and Soil Ecology Research Group, focus on research related to peatland restoration, carbon sinks, and climate change response. The positions are available from 01.08.2024 for a fixed term.
Requirements:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in forestry, biology, geology, micrometeorology, geography, or a related field. They should be eligible for postgraduate studies and apply for the Faculty’s Doctoral Programme LUMETO. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Additionally, proficiency in the R programming language, expertise in peatland vegetation, greenhouse gas measurements, a track record of scientific publications, and previous research involvement are advantageous.

Summary:
The University of Eastern Finland is offering a Doctoral Researcher (PhD Student)/Project Researcher position in biomass combustion emission research at the Department of Chemistry on the Kuopio campus. This role involves conducting research and developing emission control technologies for small-scale biomass combustion as part of the ‘PUHTIA’ development project funded by the North Karelia regional council and the EU Just Transition Fund.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a Master of Science degree in chemistry, physics, environmental/chemical technology, environmental science, or a related field. They must be eligible for postgraduate studies and possess strong English language skills. Excellent teamwork skills are essential. Practical experience in combustion processes, aerosol science, and emission measurements would be advantageous. Students in the final stages of their Master’s degree may also apply.
