Summary:
The University of Manchester, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, is offering eight scholarships to students in Bangladesh, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey who’re applying for one-year master’s programmes and will enrol in the 2023/24 academic year.
The GREAT Scholarships 2023 programme, launched by the British Council and 49 UK universities, supports postgraduate students accessing world-class UK higher education opportunities.
The programme offers a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing a one-year postgraduate programme in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects at the 49 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Scholarships will be offered for the study of full-time, on-campus postgraduate taught (MA, MSc) programmes only. This does not include programmes taught in the Manchester School of Architecture or MBA programmes.
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility Criteria for Award of British Council GREAT Scholarship in partnership with The University of Manchester
- Scholarships can only be awarded to offer holders who are passport holders of Bangladesh, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey;
- If a course/programme lasts longer than one year, the scholarships will be offered for the first year of study only;
- Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants who studied in Bangladesh, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey at all levels (school/college/university) with the exception of students who completed their bachelor’s at The University of Manchester;
- Scholarships will be offered at postgraduate taught (Master’s) level only;
- Scholarships will be offered for the study of full-time, on-campus postgraduate taught (MA, MSc) programmes only. This does not include programmes taught in Manchester School of Architecture or MBA programmes;
- Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants who are classified by the University as an international tuition fee payer;
- As a condition of the award of a scholarship, recipients are required to take part in student ambassador and/or mentoring schemes;
- Scholarships are only available for September 2023 entry (a scholarship award may not be deferred);
- Applicants for scholarships are required to submit a completed application form by 1 June 2023. The application form will be emailed to eligible offer holders by the International Office;
- Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants who are offer holders on 1 June 2023.

- Academic excellence over and above the criteria required for admission to the PGT programme selected;
- Proficiency in English language;
- Profile of a GREAT Scholar
GREAT scholars must:
- be a citizen of Bangladesh, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand or Turkey;
- be motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course;
- meet the English language requirement of the UK University;
- be willing to embody the UK higher education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK higher education, by promoting the value of studying at a UK University;
- be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment;
- represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships;
- be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss
experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK;
- be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socioeconomic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education;
- be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars;
- as an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, be willing occasionally to speak to
- potential candidates about their own experience of studying in the UK.

Title: Equity and Merit Scholarships for international master’s students
Summary:
Equity and Merit Scholarships are for academically excellent students who have the potential to make a significant contribution to sustainable development in their home countries.
The awards are intended for those who cannot afford to study in Manchester without a scholarship. We are committed to a policy of equal opportunity and all applications are considered on their merit. We particularly encourage women to apply.
We offer two types of scholarship:
- Full-time, on-campus master’s (one-year duration).
- Part-time, distance learning master’s (three to five years duration).
There are 39 scholarships (29 for full-time study and ten for online study) available for a range of courses in engineering, environment, health sciences, development, education, textiles and law. The scheme is open to applicants from Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
The scholarships cover full tuition fees, and for students who will be studying in Manchester, the award includes return international airfares, living expenses and visas.
Eligibility:
Our master’s scholarships are aimed at talented applicants, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To apply for a scholarship, you will need:
- to be a resident citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda or Zimbabwe, and have not previously studied outside of Africa (training of six months or less does not count);
- at least two years of professional experience related to your chosen field of study (this does not include unpaid internships or voluntary work);
- a bachelor’s degree (you must have graduated before September 2021) with an overall excellent grade. The awards are for academically outstanding students and typically this means that you are in the top 10% of your class;
- to be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate the potential to make a positive impact on the future of your home country;
- a clear idea of how studying at Manchester will benefit both your career and the wider community.

Summary:
This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and master’s students holding an offer from The University of Manchester. Evaluation will be based on academic merit and the quality of your scholarship application.

To apply for the NHS funding you will need to apply to the NHS bursaries department. You will also need to apply separately to Student Finance for the loan.

If you are a Home student and are studying on a NHScommissioned healthcare professional course and have not previously been registered in that healthcare profession, you should be eligible to receive the following (please note that for the MA in Social Work, funding is different – please see further in this guide):

The full amount of tuition fees will be paid directly to the University by the NHS.
Maintenance
You may also receive the following support for your living costs from the NHS:
