Summary:
A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available at the Institute of Photonics, University of Strathclyde, focusing on developing novel neuromorphic opto-electronic technologies for brain-inspired processing and sensing systems. The role is part of the EPSRC-funded project ‘Low-Power, High-Speed, Adaptable Processing-In-Sensing (ProSensing)’, in collaboration with Edinburgh and Nottingham Trent Universities. The project aims to design and develop new opto-electronic technologies for efficient, high-speed systems capable of brain-inspired sensing and in-sensor processing using light signals. Responsibilities include designing photonic-electronic systems, experimental characterisation, and developing training algorithms for these systems’ effective operation in sensing and processing tasks.
Requirements:
Candidates should possess a background in photonics, electronics, laser/LED systems, experimental analysis of optical/opto-electronic devices/systems, neuromorphic sensing/computing, imaging technologies, or related fields. Experience in programming and algorithm development for training neuromorphic (opto-electronic) systems and neural networks is desirable. Strong experimental background, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are required. Applicants should be prepared to undergo security checks by the National Security Technology Innovation Exchange (NSTIx). Opportunities for professional development, including leadership and public communication training, will be provided. The position is open to candidates nearing PhD completion, with initial appointment at grade 6 (Research Assistant) level, adjusting duties and grade as needed.
