The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of the Finnish universities. The positions belong to our research personnel and the salary for a Doctoral Researcher or a Project Researcher is in the range of 2500–2600 €/month and for a Research Assistant in the range of 2200 – 2300 €/month on average and the trial period is 6 months.

Summary:

The Photosynthetic Microbes group, led by Professor Yagut Allahverdiyeva at the Faculty of Technology, Department of Life Technologies in Turku, Finland, is seeking a doctoral researcher to join their team. This position is part of the PhotoFactory consortium, recently funded by the Erkko Foundation. The successful candidate will work on AI-assisted photosynthetic devices, contributing to the development of sustainable biotechnologies. They will be involved in cutting-edge research aimed at advancing photosynthetic production of chemicals and fuels using innovative biocatalysts.

Requirements:

Prospective candidates must have a passion for sustainability and a keen interest in data-driven systems at the intersection of cross-disciplinary technologies. An ideal candidate should possess a robust background in data-driven systems and artificial intelligence, along with experience in programming, data collection, and organization. Knowledge of photosynthesis, microalgae, or cyanobacteria would be advantageous. Applicants should hold an MSc in data sciences or related fields, with proficiency in written and verbal English communication.

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities, aligning with the research personnel category. The demand level of the postdoctoral researcher position is 5 and the doctoral researcher position 2 – 3. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance is paid. The average monthly salary, depending on previous experience and skills, is around 3450 – 3800 euros per month for postdoctoral researcher and around 2400 – 2900 euros per month for doctoral researcher/project researcher at the beginning of the employment.For a research assistant the salary will be 2200 – 2300 euros per month.

Summary:

The tasks for this position entail analyzing omics data, such as single-cell profiling and proteomics, and testing and refining data analysis methods. The focus of the work can be customized based on the expertise and interests of the applicant. Additionally, collaboration with multidisciplinary research teams and staying updated on the latest advancements in the field are integral aspects of the role.

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a PhD or MSc degree in a relevant field (bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, computer science, or similar). Those who have not yet completed their MSc studies but are graduating soon may also be considered. They seek a researcher with a strong understanding of bioinformatics tools and proficient programming skills, particularly in R and Python. The role necessitates a proactive problem-solving approach, self-direction, and excellent cooperation skills. Fluency in oral and written English is essential.

The job title will be specified during the recruitment phase for MSc level applicants. If the applicant has the right to study for a doctoral degree at the University of Turku, the job title will be doctoral researcher. Otherwise, it will be project researcher or research assistant.
