Title: Curator’s Grant-in-Aid Scholarship (University of Missouri Scholarships)

Who: international undergraduate and graduate students. (University of Missouri Scholarships)

Value: $500 to $2,000 of tuition support for one semester

Summary:

The Curator’s Grant-in-Aid Scholarship was created in the early 1950s specifically for international students. Since its inception, thousands of international undergraduate and graduate students demonstrating good academic standing and financial need have been helped to successfully complete their programs of study.

The GIA Scholarship is designated exclusively for international undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarship is awarded on a single-semester basis based on an evaluation of academic merit, financial need, longevity at MU, and on-campus employment and student activities. Undergraduate awards provide $500 to $2,000 of tuition support for one semester, but often carry over from year-to-year depending on funding availability and number of qualified applicants. Graduate awards waive between one and nine credit hours of tuition toward required courses and all nonresident fees for all credit hours that you are enrolled in for one semester. These awards are not automatically renewable, but must be applied for each semester. No GIA Scholarships are available for the summer term.

Eligibility:

You are eligible for the GIA Scholarship if, at the time of the application deadline, you meet all three of the following requirements:

1. Have completed two regular semesters at MU (fall and spring terms are considered regular semesters).
2. Are currently enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at MU. Students in professional programs (e.g., medicine, veterinary medicine, law) are not eligible.
3. Have personal funding or other sources of financial support to pay for additional costs not covered by the scholarship.

You are not eligible for this scholarship if, at the time of application, you:

• Have completed less than two regular semesters at MU.
• Are not enrolled at MU as a full-time, degree-seeking student.
• Are a permanent resident of the United States.
• Are in F-2 or J-2 dependent status.
• Are in a non-degree, “post-bac” or non-divisional academic status.
• Are an undergraduate student with a GPA of less than 2.0, or a graduate student with a GPA of less than 3.0
• Are a graduate student who has accepted an assistantship in the same semester as applying for a GIA Scholarship (if GIA scholarship is awarded and you accept an assistantship or scholarship that includes a nonresident fee waiver, the GIA Scholarship will be withdrawn).

Higher priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received a GIA Scholarship.

Title: Graduate School Fellowship Stipend Awards (University of Missouri Scholarships)

Summary:

Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis in recognition of a student’s demonstrated scholarship, scholastic and creative promise, and/ or financial need.

Eligibility: (University of Missouri Scholarships)

Every fellowship recipient must have full-time status as a graduate student during the period of appointment and may hold another smaller fellowship or engage in remunerative employment. A variety of competitive fellowships are available, including fellowships for newly admitted students who participated in a McNair Program as an undergraduate student; in the Missouri College Advising Corps Program; and in Teach for America, Americorps, and/or VISTA.

A fellowship may be renewed if:

• Funding is available, or limited semesters of support of a student are met.
• Academic program guidelines for funding duration are met.
• The student is making satisfactory academic progress.

Receiving the Stipend

• Monthly stipend payments are scheduled and administered through payroll.
• To qualify for the spring semester fellowship stipend, the recipient must have successfully completed the fall semester and be enrolled full time for the spring semester.

Title: Postdoctoral Researcher

Department: The Extension Agricultural Engineer

Job Description:

A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available for 1.5 year for a grant-funded integrated project. The grant project is with multiple Universities working together on both research and extension tasks, especially on building a decision-making tool. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with the national agricultural community to encourage systematic evaluation of manure management systems, and the adoption of nutrient removal water recycling technology.

The postdoc researcher will have opportunities working with innovative farmers and industry partners, to collect information for the research project and to address on-farm implementation. Successful candidate will be expected to analyze data, prepare reports and submit manuscripts in a timely fashion for project and peer-reviewed publications, train and mentor students, and assist with proposal writing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Agricultural, Biological, or Environmental Engineering, or a related field by the time of appointment.

Must have a valid US driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license soon. Travel to different parts of the US is needed to visit industry partners and farms, and to collect field data.

Title: Post Doctoral Fellow

Job Description:

The Zia Lab focuses on computational and theoretical modeling of living & non-living Brownian suspensions: gels, biomaterials & biological cells. We recently moved the lab from Stanford to the University of Missouri, and maintain active collaborations with Stanford University, UCSB, and JCVI.

Project > Probing the matter/life nexus: How colloidal physics instantiate life in biological cells. Funded by the Sloan Foundation. This postdoctoral researcher position will work with the PI to build the first physically-resolved model of the JCVI-syn3A minimal cell in service of our goal of shedding light on the matter/life nexus. The postdoc will expand upon our existing models of a spherically enclosed suspension, of the bacterial cytoplasm, and extensive suite of biological data and interactions profiles to (1) Construct a physically-resolved model of the JCVI-syn3A synthetic minimal cell; (2) Increase the resolution of molecular-scale interactions via surface topography, by helping construct methods to bridge physical modeling to atomic-level surface details of biomolecules that underlie their colloidal-scale interactions; (3) Use molecular dynamics simulations to improve the atomistic resolution of the interactions; and (4) Answer specific biological physics questions that interact with the matter/life nexus. Collaboration with experimentalists at JCVI and Stanford will be combined with translating biological and biochemical descriptions of molecular interactions in cytoplasm into a physiologically accurate model.

Responsibilities include code development, design of simulations to interrogate scientific questions, literature study, data analysis and interpretation, presentation at converences and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

PhD in related fields by the start of the appointment. 

Candidate will be evaluated on experience with:
– Computational background in programming in C++, Python, MD
– Scientific background in one of several areas: soft matter, colloidal suspensions, Brownian motion, cell biology, cell biochemistry

Title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Targeted Protein Degradation

The Nguyen lab at the University of Missouri-Columbia, School of Medicine is looking for a talented postdoc to join our team. Interested candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, or a related field. The candidates are expected to establish independent research projects and to generate high impact publications, which should provide the postdoctoral fellows with an excellent opportunity for further career development in academia or pharmaceutical companies.
Our lab uses state-of-the-art molecular and cellular approaches, including in vivo and in vitro biochemical assays, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, transcriptomic and proteomic technologies, and transformative artificial intelligence (AI) called AlphaFold tool to solve basic questions in medicine/biology that have immediate clinical relevance. Currently, our research group aims to (1) explore the molecular mechanisms and regulation of the CRL4CRBN-USP15 pathway in cancer, (2) discover the molecular mechanisms regulating the destruction of pathogenic proteins in neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), (3) develop specific and selective inhibitors  for ubiquitin enzymes (600 E3 ubiquitin ligases and ~100 DUBs), and (4) develop the molecular glue and PROTAC degraders to treat deadly human diseases.
