Title: Researcher within plant molecular biology

Location: The Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences

Duration: Temporary

Scope: Fulltime

Salary: The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1109 Researcher, salary grade 62-73 (NOK 604 900 – 732 300) on the Norwegian Government salary scale upon employment depending on qualifications. The position follows ordinary meriting regulations.

Summary:

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), within its Faculty of Biosciences’ Department of Plant Sciences, is offering a full-time, 9-month substitute researcher position in the field of plant molecular biology. This role is based in the Genetics, Evolution, and Sustainable Crop Production section. The researcher will be actively involved in two major projects. The first focuses on the molecular evolution of temperate grasses, specifically the transition from perennial to annual life-history traits, employing a range of methodologies including growth experiments, functional genomics, CRISPR gene editing, and plant transformation. The second project delves into the genome structure of Nardus stricta’s asexual and sexual populations using ddRAD sequencing. Additional responsibilities include supervising PhD and MSc students, conducting laboratory work, and analyzing data.

Requirements:

  • Academic Qualifications: A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Plant Molecular Biology.
  • Experience:
    • Solid background in conducting molecular experiments in plants.
    • Experience in managing and working on research projects.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in various plant molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid isolation, protein extraction, chromatin immunoprecipitation, ddRAD, plant transformation, and cloning.
    • Capable of handling large sample batches.
    • Expertise in CRISPR and dCRISPR techniques, along with confocal microscopy.
    • Proven track record in student supervision.
  • Personal Qualities:
    • Team player with goal-oriented mindset.
    • Independent problem-solving abilities in a laboratory setting.
    • Knowledge in advanced plant biology.
    • Ability to foster a positive, productive environment for students.
    • Strong interest in summarizing and communicating scientific research.
    • Excellent proficiency in both oral and written English.
