Summary:

The Indigenous Scholars Awards and Supplements Pilot Initiative will provide financial support to meritorious Indigenous students who have applied to the Canada Graduate Scholars—Master’s program (CGS M).

Meritorious applications include all applications that have received the status “Offered” or “Alternate” in the Research Portal:

Offered: CGS M applicants who are offered and accept a CGS M award and who are eligible for the Indigenous Scholars Award will keep the CGS M award and will be offered the Indigenous Scholars Supplement, to the limit of available funding.

Agency-specific doctoral awards

In addition to the CGS D, each agency has its own doctoral awards. Refer to the appropriate literature for CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC for further details.

Meritorious CGS D applicants may also be eligible for agency-specific doctoral awards. Applicants complete and submit one application to be considered for both a CGS D scholarship and an agency doctoral award. CGS D scholarships are offered to top-ranked eligible applicants.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, OR (*NEW*) protected person as of the application deadline date;
have completed no more than 24 months of full-time study in their doctoral program by December 31 of the year of application if you are currently registered PhD including Fast-tracked, OR

Title: Graduate Research Enhancement and Travel Awards (GREAT Awards)

Awarding:

Value(s) and recipients of the GREAT awards will be at the discretion of the Faculty.

Allocation:

The GREAT awards allocation for each Faculty is determined by enrolment, based on the percentage of eligible graduate students in research degree programs. Allocations are given to faculties in December for disbursement in the following academic year.

Eligibility:

Thesis Master’s or Doctoral students are eligible for a GREAT award if they are:

In good standing,
Registered full time in a research degree program,
Have completed a Travel Registry if activity is outside of Canada, and
NOT in time limitation.

Awards must be used to support research travel and dissemination of research, including, but not limited to:

Conference presentations (and equivalent dissemination activities in research-creation disciplines, such as Music);
Field research; archival research; collaborative research outside the university not eligible for Graduate Mobility Awards or to complement a Graduate Mobility Award.

Students must meet the eligibility criteria at the time of travel and when the award is paid.The goal of the GREAT awards program is to create a net increase in McGill’s research profile, to allow flexibility in the determination and distribution of graduate student travel awards, and to introduce more efficient and effective administrative and allocation mechanisms.

Summary:

In 2009, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies introduced the Graduate Research Enhancement and Travel awards (GREAT awards) program in consultation with the Faculty Deans and Associate Deans. These awards cover dissemination of research through graduate student presentations at conferences, and other graduate student research-enhancement activities, such as travel for fieldwork, archival inquiry and extra-mural collaborative research. Title: Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation Fellowships for Excellence in Graduate Education

Since the competition takes place in the summer, students must have been registered full-time in the fall and winter sessions preceding the summer semester. These 2 semesters may have been completed in a program of study other than the one for which they apply;
be enrolled full-time in a master’s program in the fall and winter semesters following the competition to receive the scholarship;
have an average grade of at least 75% (university level);
not have completed more than 3 semesters in the Master’s program at the time of application.

MBA Eligibility:

To be eligible, students must:

have completed at least 2 full-time semesters in a Québec university in the past 12 months* prior to their file being transferred to the Foundation. Title: Canadian Bureau of International Education Scholarships (CBIE)-Global Affairs: Canada Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) (McGill University PhD)

Scholarship value and duration:

The Canadian institution will receive funding from DFATD for all successful candidates in the form of a contribution agreement and will be responsible for providing the funds to scholarship recipients.

Scholarship values vary depending on the duration and level of study:

CAD 8,200 for college, undergraduate or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research; or
CAD 11,100 for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research.

In addition to the funds allocated to the recipients by DFATD, Canadian host institutions will receive CAD 500 per scholarship recipient to assist with administrative costs once the scholarship recipient arrives in Canada.

The Canadian institution will receive funding from DFATD for all successful candidates (faculty or international liaison officers/managers) in the form of a contribution agreement and will be responsible for providing the funds to scholarship recipients.

Scholarship values vary depending on the duration of stay in Canada:

CAD 3,200 for faculty members for two to three weeks of course work or research as part of their professional development;

Title: Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) (McGill University PhD)

Background:

Established in 1973, the CCSEP was the result of an undertaking by then Chinese premier Zhou Enlai and Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The CCSEP is an official exchange program between the two countries designed to enhance Chinese scholars’ and professionals’ knowledge and understanding of Canada.

Description:

Scholarships are usually for four to 12 month periods of research in Canada, but do not involve formal enrolment at a Canadian university. The recipients are placed as visiting scholars. Successful candidates will travel to Canada before the end of February 2023 to begin their program.

Eligibility:

Canada offers awards to full-time, permanent teaching or research staff, master’s or doctoral graduates as well as non-academics in China holding senior professional posts (e.g., judges, broadcasters, economists) so that upon their return home they can make a distinctive contribution to life in China and to mutual understanding between Canada and China.

Overview:

On August 6, 2017, the Government of Canada announced the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program to provide opportunities for students from ASEAN member states to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions in areas that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program aims to reduce poverty in the developing countries of ASEAN and to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Scholarships and educational exchanges will contribute towards the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SEED scholarships are facilitated through institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between post-secondary institutions in Canada and their partner institutions in ASEAN countries.

Eligibility:

Candidates must:

be citizens of an ASEAN member state (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)), Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam);
be enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country and paying tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.

Candidates are not eligible:

if they hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency;
if they are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada;
if they are already enrolled in a degree or diploma program at a Canadian post-secondary institution; or
if they have previously received a scholarship under the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development.

In support of the 52 Calls to Actions for Truth and Reconciliation at McGill, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies offers recruitment awards to Indigenous applicants to graduate degree programs.

Postdoctoral Position in Oxidative Mechanochemistry: We are seeking highly motivated applicants for a Postdoctoral Appointment in solid-state inorganic chemistry. The researcher would join a multidisciplinary team, comprising the research groups of J. Mauzeroll, J. P. Lumb and T. Friščić at McGill University, and researchers at an industrial partner in the mining industry. The project is supported by an Alliance Grant (NSERC) that aims to improve the efficiency of separating precious metals by introducing mechanochemical processes into the production chain.

Funding is available for a multi-year appointment, renewable on a yearly basis contingent upon mutual satisfaction. Title: Post-Doctoral Researcher (Axon Pathophysiology and Therapy)

Position Summary:

The position will involve all aspects of collaborative research with Professor Levin and members of his laboratory on axon pathophysiology and therapy, particularly with respect to optic nerve disease.
His/her role will include the development and implementation of reproducible models of traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) models in rats, and will work closely with others, in order to improve reproducibility.
He/she will use novel retinal imaging techniques to determine the earliest signs of damage to retinal ganglion cells, the output cells of the retina that send their axons in the optic nerve, and which undergo injury in TON.
He/she will develop imaging techniques that could be adapted for use by medical facilities to detect RGC cell body and axon stress in the retina within 24 hours of optic nerve trauma.
He/she will also be responsible for using a reproducible protocol for the use of optokinetic reflex assays to evaluate visuomotor behavior in rats.
The applicant will develop substantial expertise with animal handling, optic nerve injury, drug delivery, quantification of retinal ganglion cell soma and axonal density, and data acquisition and analysis.
The candidate will be expected to use an electronic laboratory notebook for documentation.
The applicant will work closely with and assist Professor Levin and will provide supportive assistance to other members of his laboratory, including students. The PDF will also participate in other academic activities, such as laboratory meetings, journal clubs, presentations at local scientific conferences, and the preparation and revision of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or a related field
