As of October 2020, this post describes the salary of PhD students in Marie-Curie ITN. It varies according to the country where the project will be carried out and it is not a fixed value. Therefore, in this post, we explain how that work. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Innovative Training Networks (ITN) is one of the most generous PhD programs in Europe. A PhD student who receives funding from ITN earns a higher salary than those peers hired by other funding.

Basic Salary of PhD students in Marie-Curie ITN
Similar to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship, the salary of the PhD students in Marie-Curie ITN is made of three parts:
- Living allowance: 3270 €/month
- Mobility allowance: 600 €/month
- Family allowance: 500 €/month
The first two-part of salary is given to every PhD student in ITN but the last one is only given to those with accompanying families. The numbers given above are not however a fixed value and vary according to the country where you conduct your PhD. In the following section, we explain how the country influences salary.
Country Correction Coefficient: Marie-Curie Programs
The country correction coefficient (CCC) adjusts the salary of PhD students in Marie-Curie ITN. The CCC will help to compensate for the living expenses according to the host country. For example, if you work as an ITN PhD student in Germany, the CCC is 0.988 (make it less). But if you do your fellowship in Denmark the payment is much higher thanks to the high CCC in Denmark (1.335).
In short, a married PhD student who works in Denmark under ITN can earn (as a gross salary) 5465€/month. However the same PhD student working in Germany under the ITN fund receives 4330€/month. On average, the salary of PhD students in Marie-Curie ITN funding in many countries is 50% more than normal students in the same country.
