Title: PhD student in drug development for thoracic malignancies

Summary:

The Laboratory of Applied Cancer Research (LACR) at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, led by Prof. Alessandra Curioni-Fontecedro, seeks a dynamic and motivated PhD student. Located at the Pérolles campus, the lab specializes in developing new treatments for thoracic malignancies and studying the role of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in therapy resistance. The selected candidate will join a vibrant team, including PhD students, senior scientists, and a technician, to further advance the lab’s research goals.

Research Focus: The PhD candidate will play a crucial role in identifying and assessing potential drug candidates and targets for thoracic malignancies. They will conduct in vitro experiments on human cancer cell lines to understand the mechanisms of action of these candidates. Furthermore, they will validate these drug candidates using in vivo models and examine their impact on therapeutic efficacy, particularly focusing on the role of the immune system in this process.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or biomedical sciences, with relevant expertise. They should be enthusiastic team players with an analytical mindset and a proactive approach to research. A strong background in molecular cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture and various cellular assays, is essential. Experience with cancer cell lines, sequencing methods, and FELASA B/C certification will be advantageous. Candidates must also have proficiency in programming, basic statistics, and excellent communication skills in English.
