Summary:

As part of the LUMINOSITY project, you will contribute to the techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle analysis (LCA) of the upscaling of manufacturing flexible perovskite solar cells. The aim is to evaluate and enhance the competitiveness of LUMINOSITY technology compared to existing substitutes, thus fostering its technological development. Additionally, you will prepare your doctoral thesis by publishing scientific research articles and expand the research network through participation in international academic conferences. You will also have a limited teaching assignment tailored to your background and PhD.

Requirements:

• Hold a master’s degree in business engineering, engineering, economics, or equivalent, or will obtain such a degree by July 2024.
• Proficient in data collection, quantitative research methods, and relevant software.
• Excellent academic performance as evidenced by bachelor and master transcripts.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch is advantageous.
• Experience with multidisciplinary research projects is preferred.
• Familiarity with life cycle analysis and techno-economic analysis, particularly in renewable energy technology or photovoltaics, is a plus.

Position Title: PhD student Human brain imaging to evaluate the effect of exercise on brain structure and function (Hasselt University PhD Vacancies)

Summary:

You will spearhead a research project investigating the effects of exercise intervention on cerebral complications in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients, particularly focusing on the risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. Your primary responsibilities will involve using state-of-the-art medical imaging techniques, such as MRI, to collect, analyze, and report data. Additionally, you will coach T2DM patients during exercise sessions and collect blood samples for biomarker analysis. This role will require frequent travel between research sites during data collection. You will also be engaged in teaching activities related to research and neuroscience.

Requirements:

• Hold a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences, human movement sciences, biomedical sciences, psychology, medicine, engineering, computer sciences, or equivalent.
• Strong academic performance, with final-year students encouraged to apply.
• Willingness to contribute to external funding applications.
• A keen interest in medical imaging, with experience in tools such as SPM, FSL, etc., being advantageous.
• Proficiency in computer programming languages like MATLAB, Python, etc., is recommended.
• Good to excellent knowledge of statistics, including modeling.
• Familiarity with experimental research design, execution, and analysis.
• Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, organizational capacity, and stress resistance.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written, with proficiency in Dutch or a willingness to learn for communication with participants and patients.

Position Title: Lecturer (tenure track) Environmental Economics: the environment-energy nexus (Hasselt University Vacancies)

The selected candidate will assume dual responsibilities in teaching and research within the Environmental Economics research group. As part of their teaching assignment, they will instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in economics within the Faculty of Business Economics while also contributing to course development. In their research role, they will lead economic and interdisciplinary projects, collaborating with internal and external partners to publish in reputable journals, expand the research network, and supervise doctoral students. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to addressing pressing societal challenges, particularly related to global climate change, through empirical modeling and policy support.

Requirements:

• Hold a doctoral degree in applied economics, economics, energy economics, environmental economics, or a related field with a strong economic focus.
• Demonstrate a robust research profile aligned with the Environmental Economics research group’s current portfolio, with potential for publication in leading international journals.
• Possess experience in quantitative, empirical modeling of the transition toward decarbonization of the energy system.
• Excellent didactic, communication, and organizational skills for teaching undergraduate and graduate programs are essential.
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and successful funding applications from Flemish, Belgian, and European agencies is advantageous.
• Preferred experience in supervising doctoral students.

Position Title: Tenured academic staff / Tenure track lecturer experimental physics: photoelectron spectroscopy (Hasselt University Vacancies)

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the educational and research activities of the Physics capacity group at Hasselt University. Your teaching responsibilities will encompass significant contributions to the Bachelor of Physics program and the newly established Master in Materiomics. For the Materiomics program, you will take on course coordination, material development, internship supervision, and student mentoring, while also promoting innovative educational approaches in alignment with the faculty’s educational concepts.

Requirements:

• Hold a PhD in Physics or equivalent field.
• Possess a minimum of five years of postdoctoral experience with a focus on electron spectroscopy, preferably with experience in HAXPES.
• Demonstrate a track record of outstanding research, including publications in high-impact peer-reviewed international journals.
• Have a well-established international network and a proven track record in acquiring external research funding.
• Exhibit proficiency in managing research projects and guiding students, including course development.
• Display excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Commit to achieving proficiency in Dutch (CEFR level B2) within five years of appointment if not already proficient, with language training provided by the university. Coordinating lecturers must attain CEFR level C1 in the language of instruction, also with tailored language training provided.
